Skulduggery Pleasant

Landry, D. (2007). Skulduggery Pleasant. NY: HarperCollins.

Stephanie Edgley is mourning the death of her uncle, a well known horror story author.  At her uncle's testimony reading a mysterious man was in attendance.  Stephanie is intrigued with the man after a brief conversation with him.  Stephanie was his uncle's favorite niece and she will soon find out her destiny.

The name Skulduggery Pleasant is an oxymoron; a skeleton man associated with death is not the typical good guy in any book.  When Stephanie Edgley loses her uncle, a horror story author she had thought his books were all fiction.  It is not after meeting Skulduggery Pleasant that she realizes her uncle’s stories were not all make believe.  Skulduggery became Stephanie’s protector.
