The legend of the bluebonnet

dePaola, T. (1983). The legend of the bluebonnet.  NY: Putman.

This Native American story tells the story of a young girl, She-who-is –alone who sacrificed the one thing she loved the most for her people.  Her act was greatly rewarded by nature.  Her name also was changed to One-who-dearly-loved-his-people.

The colors used in this story are warm and earth tone.  The main character has to make a though choice at a young age giving a strong message that sometimes one has to sacrifice themselves or something loved, for the best of a whole.
